Sysinternals has released yet another handy utility named Disk2vhd that lets you create VHD versions of physical disks for use in Microsoft Virtual PC or Microsoft Hyper-V virtual machines.

disk2vhd

The  program is very simple. Just download and run the program to create a VHD for any physical disk.  Run the program, select the volumes that you want to include in the VHD and then choose the VHD file location.  And the unique feature is that you can also run this tool on a system that’s online.

It will create one VHD for each disk on which selected volumes reside. It preserves the partitioning information of the disk, but only copies the data contents for volumes on the disk that are selected.
